Richard J. Worsfold LL.B.

Called to the bar in 1985

Richard concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, wrongful dismissal, estates litigation, and personal injury litigation.

Richard brings a practical and cost efficient approach to each file and attempts to secure an advantageous settlement for his clients whenever possible. Where settlement has not been possible, Richard has appeared in Ontario Courts at all levels. Over the years Richard has negotiated settlements in a wide variety of complex matters, including traffic fatality cases, disability claims, estate disputes, shareholder rights disputes and wrongful dismissal claims. When in Court, the Judgments Richard has won have been reported in legal reporting services across Ontario and Canada.

Richard completed his LL.B. at Osgoode Hall School in 1983 following undergraduate studies at Queens University. After practicing with smaller firms, Richard joined Basman Smith in 1990 and was admitted to the partnership in 1992. Richard is also a trained mediator and offers his services as mediator to individuals and counsel in Toronto.

When he is not practicing law, Richard serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Progress Place, a Toronto not-for-profit organization that provides services to persons with severe and persistent mental illness.

Richard is married, and he and his wife Susan enjoy hiking with their dog, cycling, and travel.
